Looking to experience the best of Las Vegas without spending a single dime? We get it. Vegas is surely NOT cheap, and it really does seem like everything here costs money.

While there aren’t too many free things to do in Las Vegas, there still are a handful of hidden gems and classic favorites that won’t cost you a thing.

Sure, you’ve got the obvious free attractions on the Strip, like the Bellagio Fountain show and the equally impressive Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. But there’s so much more to discover in town if you’re willing to venture off the beaten path.

Think of hidden local spots like the weirdly enchanting Mystic Falls Park at Sam’s Town, the eclectic Downtown Container Park, and the cute little cactus garden at Ethel M Chocolates.

Because we’ve spent many of our poor college days in Vegas, we’ve tackled a bunch of these over time. We’re hoping the city adds in more free activities over the next few years, but for now, you can discover Vegas’ top free experiences in existence today.

Before diving into all the goodness, bookmark these other guides to help you plan your budget-friendly trip to Vegas:

Walk through The Stranger Things Store

Stranger Things Store Las Vegas

The Stranger Things Store at the Showcase Mall is an incredibly fun and fantastic find when it comes to free entertainment. If you are a Stranger Things fan, this is a must-visit!

The Stranger Things Store is technically a merch store, but they have far more entertainment than a normal store would have.

You can explore iconic show locations such as the Palace Arcade, Hawkins High, Starcourt Mall, and Vecna’s attic, and even interact with some of the displays. The store also provides some super cool photo ops (like Will Beyers’ living room).

If you want to bring home a memorabilia or two, you can choose from so many fun little products from the show, down to little containers of ice cream from Scoops Ahoy.

Explore the M&M’s Store

M&M Store Las Vegas

If you made it to the Stranger Things store, you’ll be steps away from the M&M’s store. The M&M’s store in Las Vegas is kinda crazy — and totally fun for kids.

Located near the MGM Grand at Showcase Mall, this place has four floors of nothing but M&M’s and M&M merchandise. How they were able to fill 28,000 square feet of space with M&M-related things is beyond me, but it sure is a ton of fun if you’ve never seen it before.

You can snap a couple of pics with the many life-size M&M’s character displays, interact with the occasional mascot, or watch the 3D movie — all for free.

Looking to bring home something special? In just 2 minutes, you can create your very own one-of-a-kind M&M’s with the personal printer, combining customized messages, images, and colors of M&M’s candies. It does cost money, but it could be a pretty unique souvenir for your friends back home.

Watch the free water fountain show at Bellagio

Bellagio Fountain Show

Bellagio’s famous free water fountain show is a must if you’ve never seen it. This free water show features lights and music (genres include classical, opera, Broadway, and even pop songs) to give visitors a quintessentially Vegas experience.

The fountain show runs every half hour during the day and every 15 minutes in the evening. We recommend catching it in the evening for an extra-pretty experience!

Explore the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens

Bellagio Conservatory Summer

After catching the free fountain show, head inside Bellagio to see the beautiful Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, featuring larger-than-life floral displays that change seasonally.

Every few months or so, the talented Horticulture and Engineering teams transform the 14,000-square-foot Botanical Gardens into a showcase of inspiring sights, sounds, scents, and colors!

Depending on when you go, you’ll be able to enjoy a different landscape featuring Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, along with a special display for Lunar New Year.

We’ve seen more of these than we can count on both hands, yet we keep coming back because they’re all so spectacularly pretty.

Spend a few hours walking the Strip

From the Bellagio, you can spend a few hours walking the Strip from hotel to hotel.

Our favorite hotels near Bellagio include Caesars Palace (and the Forum Shops) and The Cosmo (make sure you visit with an empty stomach, there’s so much good food to eat there).

Planet Hollywood has a ton of affordable shows and its own set of shops too — the Miracle Mile Shops — and can be a fun visit too!

And while it is a bit further up north, The Venetian Resort is another really good one to check out. We’ll cover this one more below.

The Park West Fine Art Museum & Gallery

Park West Fine Art Museum Las Vegas
Courtesy of Park West Fine Art Gallery

The Park West Fine Art Museum & Gallery Las Vegas in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace is a great spot to check out art for free. And if you have the budget for it, you can buy the pieces you see here too!

From art auctions on cruise ships to gallery locations in Michigan, Las Vegas, and Hawaii, Park West Gallery has been a trusted destination for art lovers since 1969.

Most of the pieces in the shop are meant to be for sale, but you can still pop in to peruse without buying. You can visit one of their two locations in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace to experience fine art while you’re on the Strip.

The Atlantis Show at The Forum Shops

The Atlantis Show Caesars Palace

Also located within Caesars Palace’s Forum Shops are a couple of fountains that serve as the centerpiece of the mall. If you linger and shop long enough, you may start to hear sounds coming from the atrium near The Cheesecake Factory. That’ll be the Atlantis Show!

Consistently named one of the top free attractions in Las Vegas, this popular animatronic attraction is an entertaining take on the legendary story of the fall of Atlantis.

With more than 400 moving parts in each statue that comes to life, The Atlantis Show plays Thursday – Monday on the hour, beginning at 12:00 pm through 8:00 pm.

Fun fact: The costumes and props featured in the show were created by the same team who worked on Thor and Pirates of the Caribbean, which is super neat. There are also fire effects, water effects, and a 20-foot winged dragon which is even cooler.

PRO TIP: While you’re there, check out the 50,000-gallon aquarium that serves as the backdrop to the Atlantis shows. It’s filled with more than 300 saltwater fish including stingrays, small sharks, and other colorful fish. You might also be able to see staff members feeding the fish twice a day.

See Flamingo’s Wildlife Habitat

Flamingo-Wildlife-Habitat-at-Flamingo-Las-Vegas

The Flamingo Wildlife Habitat is a hidden-in-plain-sight escape from the buzz of the Las Vegas Strip.

Roam the peaceful and relaxing 4-acre gardens, complete with meandering streams, waterfalls, exotic birds, turtles, and fish. With no cost to enter, the habitat is a fun experience for the whole family.

For a more educational experience, you’ll wanna get there at 10 AM for the Keeper Talk to learn more about the wildlife habitat.

To visit the wildlife habitat, simply show up during operating hours. No reservation or ticket is required.

Watch the Lake Of Dreams show at Wynn

Lake Of Dreams Wynn Las Vegas
Courtesy of Wynn Las Vegas

If you don’t have the budget to watch Wynn’s award-winning show, Awakening (which we’d highly recommend), the next best thing is Wynn’s free nightly show, Lake of Dreams.

This free show takes place in an environmental theater features a mountain rising 140 feet high, adorned with over 1,500 trees and a coursing waterfall. Shimmering with 4,000 color-changing lights, the Lake of Dreams combines light, water, trees and plants, architecture, music, and a massive singing frog to deliver a multi-media sensory experience unlike anything else on The Strip.

The shows run nightly every half-hour from dusk until 12:30 a.m. It’s open to the public! You can watch it while dining in the patios at SW Steakhouse or Lakeside, or enjoying cocktails at Bar Parasol.

Catch the dueling pianos show at Piano Bar

The Piano Bar at Harrahs Las Vegas
Courtesy of Caesars Entertainment

Harrah’s Piano Bar is hands down one of the best come-as-you-are spots on the Strip for live music! Where else can you karaoke til 9 pm, then catch an epic dueling pianos showdown that keeps the energy high til late into the night?

The piano players are insanely talented, making every song a crowd-pleaser. And you know what? Whenever we’ve been here, the crowd’s always SO into it!

It’s free to enjoy, and the drinks won’t break the bank compared to other fancier spots on the Strip.

Oh yeah, if you’re staying somewhere nearby, be sure to come back to catch Big Elvis! This is one of the longest-running and beloved acts of the Piano Bar. Take a musical ride with The King every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 2 PM, 3:30 PM and 5 PM.

Walk Circus Circus midway and watch the free circus acts

Circus Circus Las Vegas

As Circus Circus’ theme suggests, you’re going to be getting some circus vibes while you’re here. You can watch daily free circus performances at the Carnival Midway, featuring acrobats, clowns, and other entertaining acts.

Start by strolling through the Midway (the best times to go are nights and weekends — otherwise it’s kind of dead). If you stay long enough at The Midway, you might be able to witness circus acts including:

  • The Flying Poemas doing high-flying trapeze tricks from Argentina
  • Hossein demonstrates feats of strength and balance hailing from Persia
  • Naira showcasing a breathtaking aerial display on silk
  • Noelia delivering a solo trapeze performance high above the Midway Stage
  • Dave, Tonya, Rocco, and Huel‘s wild and wacky clown acts
  • Yongjian & Yong Zhang, twin juggling masters that bring whimsical fun to the big top
  • … and more!

Yes, the hotel is old and outdated, but it’ll give you a pretty authentic take on what old Vegas used to feel like!

See the Hand of Faith (the largest nugget of gold on Earth)

Did you know the world’s biggest golden nugget is on display right here in Las Vegas? And yes, it’s fittingly housed at the Golden Nugget.

Back in September 1980, Kevin Hillier was testing out his new metal detector in the small town of Wedderburn, Australia. What he found wasn’t the usual bottle cap or paper clip, but something treasure hunters could only dream of—a massive 61-pound golden nugget buried just a foot underground.

Known as the Hand of Faith, it holds the title of the largest golden nugget in existence, the second-largest ever discovered, and the biggest one ever found using a metal detector.

As for Hillier, he did pretty well for himself, selling his amazing discovery to the Golden Nugget for over a million dollars.

If you want to see this piece of history for yourself, just head to the back of the Golden Nugget casino and into the hotel area. The Hand of Faith is proudly displayed in a wall case near the lobby.

See the Viva Vision show at Fremont Street Experience

Golden Nugget Las Vegas
Courtesy of Booking.com

If you’ve made it to Golden Nugget for the Hand of Faith, head outside to catch one of the Viva Vision shows on display above Fremont Street.

This pedestrian-only street is filled to the brim with touristy live entertainment, dining, and souvenir shopping opportunities, as well as zipline tours, free concerts, and even a free show.

Viva Vision (the free light show) is the largest video screen in the world and recently got a $32 million upgrade so you know it’ll be interactive and blinding in the best way possible.

Featured shows run every night on the hour from 6 pm to 2 am. The show goes for approximately 6-7 minutes.

Pinball Hall of Fame

Pinball Hall Of Fame Las Vegas

The Pinball Hall of Fame is full of old pinball games that are actually playable, perfect for reliving the glory days of arcade gaming. Best of all, admission is completely free!

If you can think of a game, they probably have it — this spot carries the world’s largest collection of pinball machines, ranging from vintage classics to modern faves.

Play your way through decades of pinball history and experience the charm of these old-timey games while you’re there. You’ll find rows and rows of machines, all ranging from $0.25 to $0.50 per play.

(Don’t be surprised if you find that 30-40% of the pinball machines don’t work. They ARE old as heck, after all.)

PRO TIP: The Pinball Hall Of Fame is located right across from the famous ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign, so if you’ve been dying to get a pic in front of the sign, you can pair it with a visit to the museum.

Go swimming at your hotel’s pool complex

MGM Grand Studio Tower
MGM Grand’s Pool Complex

If you’re staying at a hotel with a pool, you’ve got super convenient access to a free activity right at your hotel.

But not all hotel swimming pools are created equally. If you’re looking for an amazing pool complex where both adults and kids will have fun all day long, we’d recommend Mandalay Bay or MGM Grand. These two hotels have the best swimming pool complexes in Vegas, hands down.

We’ve stayed at both hotels and have had tons of fun at both (even as adults!). Both have massive lazy rivers complete with waterfalls. Mandalay Bay even has a wave pool!

Transport yourself to Italy at The Venetian

Gondola Ride Indoors The Venetian
Courtesy of The Venetian

Want to take a free trip to Venice without needing to spend a dime on plane tickets? Head straight for The Venetian Resort.

Stroll through the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian, where the cloud-painted ceiling creates the illusion of an open sky underneath the afternoon streets of Venice.

Marvel at the detailed architecture and enjoy the lively atmosphere of shoppers and alfresco diners as you window-shop at high-end boutiques and unique stores.

You can also watch gondolas floating by on the indoor canal or take a ride for yourself. The serenading gondoliers will make you feel like you’re really in Italy — in a kitschy way, of course.

Explore New York-New York

New York New York Las Vegas

How about a trip to NYC next? You can hit the bustling streets of the Big Apple by visiting New York-New York.

The hotel’s replicas of the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge are perfect for some quick ‘sightseeing’, offering excellent photo opportunities and a taste of New York’s iconic architecture.

While neither is free, the two main draws of this hotel are the Big Apple Coaster and the Big Apple Arcade, both of which are great for kids.

Paris Las Vegas

Mon Ami Gabi Paris Las Vegas

Don’t let the global exploration stop there — you can head to Paris next.

Wander through the cobblestone streets of Paris Las Vegas’ Le Boulevard District, where the colorful storefronts and café patios replicate the charming ambiance of the French capital.

Enjoy some French food at one of the hotel’s bistros, grab a crispy and flaky croissant at the Dominique Ansel Marché, and snap a few photos with the Eiffel Tower.

If you’re open to spending some money, you can even choose to go up to the Eiffel Tower Viewing Deck. This half-scale replica offers great views of the Las Vegas Strip.

Explore Red Rock Canyon

Red Rocks - GoVegas Guide
Papu and I hiking the Calico Basin area.

Red Rock Canyon is locally famous for its unique rock formations painted in shades of red and orange against a backdrop of clear blue skies.

Because you can get there in just about 25-30 minutes from the Strip, it’s a great spot for early morning hikes. There are both easy and challenging trails to choose from, making this a great free activity if you want to burn off all those Las Vegas buffet calories.

Calico Basin is by far the easiest area to reach in Red Rock Canyon without having to pay the entrance fee. Within the Calico Basin area, you can hike around Kraft Mountain or check out the Red Spring Boardwalk.

If you’d rather not deal with the logistics of how to get there (or want to visit the park without hiking), there are tour companies that will take you there and show you the park in all its glory. You’ll just have to fork up some money to do it.

See the mermaids at the Silverton Las Vegas aquarium

Named the “Best Free Attraction in Las Vegas”, the Silverton Las Vegas aquarium holds more than 117,000 gallons of water and is home to thousands of tropical fish. From time to time, the aquarium is ALSO home to mermaids!

If you time your visit right, you can catch magically skilled mermaids swimming underwater and entertaining the crowd. Watch as they gracefully swim through the aquarium, interacting with a variety of sea creatures and bringing the magic of the ocean to life.

Mermaid appearances take place Thursdays to Saturdays from 12PM – 8PM and Sundays at 10:30AM – 6:30PM. Mermaids swim every half hour, except during scheduled stingray feedings.

Not free, but still amazing: For those who want to take their mermaid encounter to the next level, they offer an exclusive Mermaid School experience, where you can join the mermaids for an unforgettable swim in the aquarium. It’s an experience you won’t find anywhere else!

Explore the Arts District (and the First Friday Art Walk)

Arts District Las Vegas

For a more local experience, leave the Strip and Fremont Street behind and head to the Arts District.

This up-and-coming little neighborhood has everything from third-wave coffee, art studios, vintage shopping, antique stores, breweries, and good restaurants. Because we like good coffee, the Arts District is one of our favorite areas to explore during our mornings in Vegas!

You’ll find unique attractions here, such as the Burlesque Hall of FameThe Arts FactoryMain Street Peddlers Antique Mall, and more.

What you decide to do is entirely up to your interests, but I’d highly recommend grabbing something to eat there — maybe a coffee at Makers & Finders or Vesta Coffee Roasters, a slice of pizza at Good Pie, and/or uniquely English bites at Cornish Pasty Co.

If you happen to be in town on the first Friday of the month, the Arts District hosts its free First Friday art walk with live music, local artists, food trucks, and activities.

Explore Container Park

For an afternoon/evening of outdoor shopping, head to Downtown Container Park.

Architecturally, this spot’s pretty unique — as the name suggests, you’ll find a bunch of shipping containers have been turned into homes for many shops and restaurants.

Kids will love the interactive playground featuring The Treehouse, while adults can eat and relax while enjoying free outdoor concerts, movies, and more on the main stage.

Oh yeah, there is also a giant praying mantis that shoots out flames at the entrance (nighttime only)–don’t miss it! It’s so… Burning Man. In fact, we recently learned that this structure originally debuted at Burning Man!

Pro Tip: If you’re a Las Vegas local, check out some special discounts and offers just for you.

Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art

The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, located on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas, is one of the best places to see free contemporary art in Las Vegas.

Dedicated to providing access to thought-provoking art that challenges perceptions and inspires creativity, don’t be fooled into thinking that this isn’t a real art gallery. It is! Even though it’s located on the UNLV campus.

As the only true art museum in Las Vegas, the Barrick Museum strives to break down barriers to entry, offering free admission to all exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and community activities. How awesome is that, right?

Recent exhibits include “Modern Desert Markings: An Homage to Las Vegas Area Land Art,” “Am I Your Type,” “Crowd Burst,” and “Meanwhile, a few feet away from you.”

The Marjorie Barrick Museum’s main exhibit hall layout is similar to that of many major art museums with an open, airy feel and comfortable benches placed throughout for those who want to sit back and take in the art.

Cost: Free (suggested donation is $5 for adults, $2 for children and seniors)

Ride bikes or go hiking at Clark County Wetlands Park

Clark County Wetlands Park Las Vegas
Courtesy of Clark County Wetlands Park

It might be hard to believe, but Vegas’ natural landscape isn’t just red rocks, sand, and dirt. For some real greenery, head to Clark County Wetlands Park, a surprisingly lush oasis in the Mojave Desert just a few miles from the Las Vegas Strip.

Even more surprisingly, the park doesn’t require an entrance fee.

Spanning 2,900 acres along nearly eight miles of the Las Vegas Wash, this park is home to four distinct habitats that support diverse native plants and wildlife.

For your day in the outdoors, you can explore the 210-acre Nature Preserve, which features ponds with aquatic plants and animals, ADA-accessible trails, and unpaved paths perfect for nature walks and wildlife observation.

Take on the 14-mile Wetlands Loop Trail, a multi-use path ideal for hikers, joggers, cyclists, and dog-walkers.

Walk through the cactus garden at Ethel M’s Chocolates

Ethel M Chocolates Lights Of Love
Our visit to the cactus garden during Valentine’s Day.

Ethel M Chocolates is a local institution named after Ethel Mars (the mother of Forrest Mars Sr., aka the founder of Mars Chocolates — ring a bell?).

Forrest Mars Sr. created Ethel M Chocolates in 1981 as a tribute to his mother, in part due to Nevada laws allowing the production and sale liqueur-filled chocolates, for which the Ethel M brand has become well known.

While many visitors come here for the chocolates themselves, there’s another super fun and free attraction to check out: the four-acre Ethel M Botanical Cactus Garden.

Over 300 species of cacti and succulents make this Nevada’s largest collection of its kind, and one of the biggest in the world. Roughly half of the desert plants are native to the American Southwest, with another half from Australia, South America, and other parts of the USA.

There is no charge to visit the cactus garden on a self-guided stroll.

Seven Magic Mountains

Seven Magic Mountains Las Vegas

Feeling like a mini road trip through the desert? A quick 15-20 minute drive out of The Strip area will bring you to one of the coolest free art installations in all of Nevada: Seven Magic Mountains.

This public installation is made up of seven ‘towers’ made up of painted, stacked boulders that stand more than 30 feet high.

These colorful rock totems look so darn cool against the dusty barren desert landscape!

The art installation was created by internationally renowned Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone and commissioned by the Nevada Museum of Art. It was supposed to be taken down years ago, but some way somehow it’s still standing so go enjoy it for yourself while you can!

Recommended: 2-in-1 Combo Day Trip Tour

From Las Vegas: Hoover Dam & Seven Magic Mountains – Explore two of America’s most iconic sites on this jam-packed combo tour. Also includes a stop at the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign! Best for travelers who want to see more of Las Vegas’ surroundings but don’t have their own car.

Mystic Falls Park at Sam’s Town

Who else first heard the name “Sam’s Town” in a song by The Killers before realizing it’s also the name of a hotel in Vegas?

Well, Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall is more than just a song title—it’s a real hotel located just a short drive from the Las Vegas Strip. And it’s home to the quirky yet captivating Mystic Falls Park.

Mystic Falls Park is a true hidden gem among free attractions in Las Vegas, outlasting even some of the iconic Strip attractions that inspired it. Opened in 1994, this 25,000-square-foot atrium, surrounded by guest rooms, shops, and restaurants, offers tree-shaded paths and a multi-story waterfall to enjoy.

But the real magic happens after sunset when the park is suddenly transformed by music, theatrical lighting, animatronic forest creatures, and lasers.

The show runs three times daily Monday through Thursday, at 6 pm, 8 pm and 10 pm. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, they hold an additional 4 pm show.

Shelby Heritage Center

Shelby Heritage Center Las Vegas
Courtesy of Shelby Heritage Center

Ever heard of Caroll Shelby? As one of the most legendary American automotive designers and drivers, one of his most longstanding legacies is his contributions to Ford Motor Company’s development of the AC Cobra and Mustang.

Experience a piece of his legacy at the Shelby Heritage Center, which is a 2-in-1 facility that’s both a Heritage Center and a 150,000-square-foot production facility.

Among the vehicles on display are the Shelby Cobras, Shelby Mustangs, and even the rare GT40, vehicles known for their raw power and timeless appeal. Alongside 25+ Shelby vehicles, the museum also tells a comprehensive history of his automotive designs, racing experiences, and entrepreneurship.

The Shelby Heritage Center is free and open to the public 7 days a week. For a more in-depth experience, you can opt for the VIP Behind-The-Scenes tours that can be purchased on their site.
